Short-stay luggage

A 55 cm cabin suitcase, or a 35 to 45-liter weekend bag, is enough for three days. It holds two or three outfits, a pair of shoes, and a toiletry bag. When flying, it saves you from checking luggage and waiting at the carousel.

The weekender bag is lightweight, packs down easily, and can be worn over the shoulder: it is suitable for train and car travel. The carry-on suitcase rolls and protects belongings better in airports. For a short trip by plane, the carry-on suitcase remains the most comfortable option.

These are format names. The 24-hour bag is the most compact, for an overnight stay with a change of clothes. The 48-hour bag offers a little more volume, for two nights. Both slip easily into a trunk or under a train seat.

Roll t-shirts, sweaters, and trousers instead of folding them: they take up less space and wrinkle less. Tuck socks inside shoes. Packing cubes separate clean and dirty items and make it easier to access each outfit.
